Description

What is Procyclidine 2.5mg used for?

Procyclidine 2.5mg is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including slow movements, shaking, drooling saliva, sweating, muscle stiffness and speech/walking/ writing difficulties. Procyclidine is also indicated for the treatment of Parkinsonism. This medicine is used to help reduce extrapyramidal side effects, such as uncontrollable face/body movements, tremors and restlessness, caused by psychiatric drugs (chlorpromazine, perphenazine, haloperidol, fluphenazine and others).

Procyclidine belongs to a group of medicines called anticholinergics. It works by blocking the effects of a certain natural substance (acetylcholine) in the brain.

Procyclidine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Procyclidine 2.5mg?

Like other medicines, Procyclidine 2.5mg can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Procyclidine are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

It is pertinent to note that side effects of Procyclidine cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Procyclidine develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.

Procyclidine can cause side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating, blurred vision, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, dilated pupils, muscle weakness and confusion. What is the recommended dosage of Procyclidine?

Take Procyclidine tablet after meals, or as directed by your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Procyclidine?

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Procyclidine medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses to catch up for the missed dose.

What if you overdose on Procyclidine?

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Procyclidine, seek medical attention immediately.

Overdose symptoms of Procyclidine may include unconsciousness, hallucinations, widened pupils, confusion and fast or irregular heartbeat.

Note

Before taking Procyclidine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, heart problems, muscle weakness, glaucoma, mental/mood problems, urinary problems, high blood pressure and intestinal problems (chronic constipation).

Procyclidine may cause decreased sweating and this may result in stroke during hot weather or when doing vigorous exercise. So avoid becoming overheated. Use caution while driving or operating machinery as Procyclidine may cause blurred vision or lightheadedness. While taking Procyclidine, avoid alcoholic beverages.
